Chuy Chavez

Chuy Chavez owner of Chavez Performance Horses located in Gilroy, Ca. Born and raised in Atitlan, Jalisco Mexico which is where his passion for horses began at a young age.  After his move from Mexico to California, Chuy fell in love with the sport of reining. Once he knew what direction he wanted to go, he sought out the help of local NRHA professional, Warwick Schiller. Chuy worked as Warwick's assistant trainer for 4 years where he learned, among many other things, the importance of being a good horseman. Chuy used all that he had learned from Warwick as well as the tips and advice from many trainers and used that knowledge to start his own training program in 2015.

Over the past 6 years Chuy has had countless wins in the major L1 and L2 Open Aged Events and more recently was a L3 Finalist at the NRHA Derby and NRBC. He took home the Level 3 Wildcard Futurity Championship at HRRC in 2018 and just claimed the Level 4 Open Futurity title at the 2021 Reining by the Bay!
